My night vision is not great and now that the days are getting shorter I decided to invest in a set of LED headlight bulbs and driving light bulbs.
To install the headlight bulbs I had to take the front grill completely off the Jeep. In order to do that I had to unbolt my winch, which also meant I had to take the top center section of the bumper off as well. Once everything was off I pulled out the headlight housing assembly on each side, took out the old halogen bulb and replaced them with Beamtech H13 LED bulbs. I also went ahead and adjusted my lights to aim down a little bit since I never did that after installing the front lift/leveling kit. Now maybe I won’t get flashed while driving in the dark.
I also replaced the driving lights with a pair of Alla Lighting dual color bulbs. What makes these really unique is that when you turn them on they are white, but if you turn them off and then back on again they are yellow. So now instead of just driving lights I essentially have driving and fog lights. I am getting a slight flicker in the driving lights so I may need to add a resistor to it in order to resolve the flickering.
Driving at night is much better with the LED lights. Not only are they brighter, but due to the white color they appear more crisp and clear when compared to the halogen bulbs. Now I need to replace the Daytime running lights with LEDs and I also want to switch out the reverse lights to LED as well.
Also on the list is to get the Tazer Mini JL so that I can have it keep the driving lights one when the high beams are activated.
After installing the LED headlights and driving lights I had an opportunity to go camping with one of my kids and his family. I didn’t arrive until after dark so I had all of my lights on so I could see (lots of wildlife and people in the area). As I arrived at the campsite there was a lady crossing the entrance to our site and she started to say, “Geez, dude do you have enough li…” at which point she realized my top and doors were off and I could hear her. I should have said, “Well, I didn’t hit you, did I?”, but instead I said nothing.
